Paviors cheer the start of 2011 Lord Mayor’s Show
Saturday, 12th November, was bright with sunny spells and warmer than
most previous years, much to the delight of the 60 plus Paviors and family
members who joined the Paviors’ Float for the 2011 Lord Mayor’s Show.
Large crowds had gathered to witness the Show both in the morning and
afternoon, and were estimated to be in excess of 100,000.

Master and Wardens ready for the off!
The float was once again pulled by Joan, the steam roller provided by the
Amberley Working Museum, and is always a popular sight and sound for the
spectators with its cheerful whistle! The ever popular Jazz Band were on
board again, and this time there was sound amplification available!

The Paviors passing St Pauls Cathedral
Thankfully the anticipated protests from the encampment, around St Pauls
Cathedral, did not materialise and the parade went off without a hitch,
though there was a slight delay to the start.

The Crew of Steam Roller “Joan” from Amberley Museum
The Master was interviewed on the Float by Stephen Fry on the run
(apparently for a show the BBC will be showing later next year) and we look
forward to seeing the results. The route was the same as in previous years
and we finished up, for a buffet lunch and a welcome break, at the bottom of
Arundel Street.

A brilliant end to a wonderful day.
The return along the Embankment up Queen Victoria Street, past the
Mansion House and finishing on Gresham Street just beyond the Guildhall,
went equally well and we finished in time to see the end of the Show down
at Blackfriars Bridge.
Then it was down to Blackfriars Pier to join the MV Erasmus, which had very
good viewing decks, for a cruise on the Thames, a buffet meal and copious
libations followed by a great sighting of the magnificent Fireworks display.

The Sponsors
Very many thanks to our Organisers Phill Hyde, Jacqui Davies and Pat
Churchard, and our Sponsors who made it all possible.
