Chepstow High Street is the winning scheme for the 2005 Paviors Award. The competition is for schemes constructed to a high quality and an imaginative design. The competition is held annually in conjunction with the LOCAL GOVERNMENT NEWS competition for street design, in which there are six categories.

In making the award to Monmouthshire County Council the clients for the Chepstow High Street Scheme the judges were very impressed by the approach adopted by the County Council and their designers WS Atkins, and the quality of the completed work by the Contractor Alun Griffiths.

The Master John Carpenter accompanied by Award Judge Mike Cottell presented a certificate to the Chairman of the County Council Councillor Val Smith accompanied by Councillor Chris Woodhouse, the Cabinet Member for the Environment in Chepstow on 9th August. Also a street "button" was presented for the client to place in the paving at a suitable location.

Further certificates were presented to the Client, Designer and Contractor at the Annual Banquet in the Mansion House on the 1lth October.

In previous years the award has been made to Bournemouth, Gosport, Newcastle, Northampton, and Kings Lynn (for Downham Market), and now in 2005 the Principality has been successful in winning the Paviors Award.
