The company donates around £40,000 each year to charitable and educational causes and to reward excellence. Regular recipients are listed below with links for further information.
The Charity Fund of the Paviors Company is one of its principal activities. The
main sources of income into the fund are through donations from the members of
the Company, and through investments held in the Company’s name.
The charitable activities of the Company are managed by a Board of Trustees
comprising the Master and Wardens at the time, together with five other Trustees.
The Trustees meet twice a year under the watchful eye of the Administrator, Mr
John White (Clerk to the Company) who is responsible for the day to day activities
of the Trust.
These activities are split into four separate Trusts – the main Fund; the Chair of
Highway Engineering Educational Trust; The Livery Trust for Charities; and the Sir
Harry Percy Sheppard Trust.
Through these Trusts the Company aims to support education in the profession of
Highway Engineering; support charities in the City of London and nationally; and
make available benevolent grants to pensioners of the Company and those suffering
through poverty.
The budget for charitable giving in each current year is approximately £40,000,
which is split according to custom between City based charities, Construction
Industry related organisations and a small number of other charities under the
direction of the Master.
Through the Livery Trust for Charities the Company makes annual donations and
grants totalling approximately £17,700.00. Those organisations that have been
supported include the Lord Mayor’s appeal; St Christopher’s Hospice; RedR;
Lighthouse Benevolent Fund; Tower Hamlets Educational Business Partnership and
the Master’s charities.
In addition, funds have been made available to Ironbridge and Amberley museums,
and small donations to the adopted service units, HMS Argyle and 3rd Battalion
Princess of Wales’ Regiment.
