Paviors promote pavements but not for sleeping on! It is appropriate that we support the St Bartolph’s Project, a charity whose objective is to coax homeless people sleeping rough on the streets of London into accommodation. Some attain a qualification and many find employment.
The Aldgate Advice Centre is open in the afternoon and evening with an average of 50 clients during the day and 100 in the evenings. A dedicated team support the “drop in” facilities and the contact and assessment team endeavour to settle long-term rough sleepers. Last year the team found accommodation for 109 clients.
The centre has a regular team of volunteers without whom it would be impossible to reach so many clients; they provide a range of services, informal chats, handing out tea and coffee and gaining their trust. For many clients this is the only social contact they have. A team of lawyers volunteer their time to give free legal advice once a week.
The Company has committed to donating £2,000 pa for three years.
