PAVIORS FLOAT 2005
November 12th is a date for your diary, as this is the Saturday which sees the colourful pageant that is the Lord Mayor's Show. 2005 will see the fourth consecutive Pavior's entry - last year, as in 2003, you may remember that we had the longest float in the procession, and managed to incorporate two steam vehicles - a show first!
The entry is made possible by the hard work of those Paviors who organise and co-ordinate, but also by the great generosity of our sponsors who last year comprised:-
Nigel Kempner of Benchmark Group Norman Haste of Cross Rail Terry Last of Tarmac Rodney Bennion of McNicholas Tom Barton of Robert McAlpine
Entering the show is not only an excellent way of promoting your company, but also the Paviors as a living, breathing organisation. It also helps to support the Lord Mayor's Charity and to promote the City both nationally and across the world. This year it is going to be even bigger than last year's record show with over 6,000 people taking part whilst ½ million spectate and a further 3 million watch the event on television.
If we are going to participate again this year we will need to identify support from sponsors for this year's effort - so if you're interested in providing support, and gaining some useful exposure for your company by way of advertising space on the float, whilst also contributing to the Lord Mayor's charity - all this for £2,000 (plus VAT) - we would be delighted to hear from you!

PAVIORS GOLF SOCIETY
The Annual Dinner of the Paviors Golf Society is one of the many enjoyable events of the Company's year. The location this year was the Watermen and Lightermen's Hall with around 38 Liverymen, Freemen and Guests attending what proved to be a relaxed and enjoyable occasion. The Dinner was held in the Freeman's Room incorporated into the Hall in 1983, this fine room has recently been extensively refurbished to very high and exacting standards. A major feature of the room is a display of some of the Watermen Company's historic uniforms and silver. The Golf Society's annual committee meeting preceded the dinner where, having discussed general organisational issues, members contemplated golf for 2005 and the prospect of playing Swinley Forest (May), Woburn (July), St Georges Hill (September) and Tandridge (November). An inter-livery competiton towards the end of the year in La Manga is also being considered.
The newly appointed Captain for 2005, James Dickson, proposed the Toast to the Guests, which was responded to by guest Stephen Keeley, who entertained us with one or two interesting and humorous reflections of his experience of golf and playing with the Society. He was obviously impressed with the Society's level of support and recounted how much he had enjoyed the Paviors' golf days to which he had been invited. James Dickson responded and thanked Master John Mills for his support as President of the Society in 2004 and to John Carpenter (Master and Society President for 2005) for attending the evening. The efforts and assistance of the Society Secretary, Keith Lambert are much appreciated, in the efficient running of the Society events. One or two eyebrows were raised, however, when James Dickson presented the Golf Society Trophy to Keith for the highest score for 3 rounds of golf in 2004!
The Golf Society was reinstated after the war in 1949 and will continue to prosper, given the very strong level of support enjoyed.
James Dickson
