The Spring Livery Dinner was held in the most impressive Stationers Hall in Ave Maria Lane on Thursday 27th April 2006. Stationers’ Hall is a Grade I listed building, located near Ludgate Hill, close to St Paul’s Cathedral, in the City of London. The evening was very well attended with circa 82 Liverymen and 88 Guests enjoying the animated and colourful atmosphere of the flagged draped hall. A thought provoking speech was delivered by Captain Robin Hall of the 3rd Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. Robin (a town planner by profession) gave us a fascinating insight into the role of the Territorial Army within society today and highlighted the Army’s increasing dependence (now 25% of the British Army) on having a strong Territorial force to enable it to carry out duties around the Globe. Robin described his adventures from California to Hawaii through to Kasakstan. Master David Laing provided a comprehensive response and reminded all of the hard work that is required to organise such events such as the evening at Stationers’ Hall. The Master proposed the Toasts, with Ian McAlpine introducing and proposing the Toast to The Guests. The evening was brought to a closure by Matthew Russell, the Junior Liveryman, proposing the final toast to the Paviors Company. |

During the speeches a thank you presentation was made to Alex Neale, our recently retired Beadle. After 8 years as the Company’s Beadle, Alex has tendered his resignation, due to a deterioration in health and the realisation that age is catching up on him. His calm and cheerful manner organising and overseeing our many and varied Livery events have ensured smooth and stress free occasions and he will be greatly missed.
