The 1st July proved a glorious day for the Paviors’ Charity Golf Day at Burhill GC. Fifteen teams of four took part in a shotgun start on the Old Course, with the challenge-hole being the par-three 10th. Suffice to say that only eight players managed to hit the green, so this proved to be quite a lucrative addition to the charity funds .

After dinner, the golfers were royally entertained by Ager Brown, who also conducted the auction. With Ager’s persuasive patter and the generosity of those bidding, and not forgetting monies raised from the challenge-hole plus ‘Heads and Tails’, the event raised approximately £14,000.

The eventual winners were the Paviors’ friends from 29 Squadron RAF; runners up were Terry Last’s team; and in third place was the team from Tarmac. The winner of the Paviors’ McAlpine Cup was Frank Loughlin.

Many thanks to the organizer, John White, and to all who participated.
