A team of Paviors took on a team from the Royal Marines Band Service for a charity golf match on Thursday 27 April at Camberley Heath Golf Club. There were 14 individual matches playing in four-balls, with each group of four combining Paviors and Marines competing for a team competition.
The results of the individual matches meant that the Paviors beat the Marines by 8½ to 5½ to retain the competition’s trophy. The team competition was won on count-back by a combined team of Lynda Chase-Gardener (this year’s Paviors’ Golf Society Captain) and Pavior Neil Edwards, with Chris Barnes and Simon Tripp from the Marines
The course was in splendid condition and looked its best on a dry day with morning sunshine. The promised rain held off until golfers had completed their rounds and returned to the club house for a welcome drink and a carvery dinner. After dinner, there was an auction for rounds of golf at Camberley Heath and Burr Hill.
In all the day raised £2,000 for The Marines Charity, and the organizers of the day, Keith Lambert and Gordon Harris from the Paviors, had the pleasure of handing over a cheque for this amount to Lt Col Nicholas Grace OBE, the Royal Marines Principal Director of Music who had been participating in the day’s golf.
