The annual Craftsman Certificate Awards made by City & Guilds in conjunction with the City’s Construction Liveries Group were made at Merchant Taylors’ Hall on Monday 13 February. The presentations were introduced by Pavior Tom Barton, who is the current Chairman of the Construction Liveries Group. The presentations were made by the Rt Hon The Lord Mayor, Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley. Two awards were presented on behalf of the Paviors Company. ​

​The first presentation was to Journeyman Stephen Harrison, who is a Contracts Manager for Tarmac. The company has supported his academic aspirations through the Tarmac leadership programmes and he has achieved an NVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Management and his IOSH Managing Safely qualifications. Stephen has been responsible for managing four supervisors and surfacing gangs, weekly and monthly forecasting, day-to-day administration of materials and equipment and liaison with clients, most notably on the Amey 4G area road maintenance project. He is currently the Project Manager on Tarmac’s most prestigious contract, to resurface the main runway at Glasgow Airport.

The second presentation was to Apprentice Liam Owen, also of Tarmac. He is currently working towards a HNC in Civil Engineering. He was named Civil Engineering Contractors Association North East Apprentice of the Year in 2016 and received the prestigious Highway Magazine ‘Apprentice of the Year’ in the same year. Liam is currently working on the Morpeth Bypass, where he is fully proficient in the use of the Trimble Automated Paving System.
