The Worshipful Company of Paviors entered a strong team in the Inter-Livery Swimathon on 29 February at the Royal Automobile Club in Epsom.
The Paviors’ team consisted of Company members Charlie Laing, Stewart Laing (who swam the English Channel in 2013), Nick Boswell and Alexander Malmaeus. They were joined by Samuel Freestone, the 10-year-old son of the Paviors’ Clerk. Samuel, who showed particularly strong technique and endurance, was rewarded by a photo opportunity with the women’s 100-metre backstroke world record holder (since 2009) Gemma Spofforth. The event was not a race but the Paviors managed to make it into the RAC bar ahead of most of the other 11 participating Livery Companies. Funds were raised towards the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
