Undeterred by the tube strike, 27 determined and hungry diners made their way to the intimate and cosy surroundings of the library at the Army and Navy Club (“the RAG”) on Pall Mall for a luncheon organised by Daniel Rowe. The Club was founded in 1837 and boasted the Duke of Wellington as a member. The Library is a delightful room offering splendid views over St James’s Square.
Our Luncheon Club was given a great example of fine dining with a delicious starter of smoked haddock and chive brandade, followed by braised featherblade of beef and rounded off with a salted caramel dome. This was accompanied by two lovely wines, a Cotes de Gascogne and a Merlot.
It was lovely to see so many of our group in attendance, enjoying an ambient atmosphere of conviviality and happy chatter. We look forward to our next events:
5 November: The Guildhall – The Alderman’s Dining Room (members only, Lunch)
8 December: Christmas Dinner at the Watermen’s Hall (members & guests, evening)
