The 2022 Luncheon Club summer day out took place on 29th June at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. Some 26 members and guests attended what was an excellent day with a very good lunch.

Participants were able to visit the superb aircraft displays, including going aboard many iconic aircraft of the past, and were also able to visit the impressive Land Warfare Museum. There was an aerobatic display plus several Spitfire flights.

Renter Warden Melanie Hampton had bought her husband, Michael, a present for a significant birthday of a flight in a Tiger Moth at Duxford. Michael’s father helped map Greenland in the 1930s from a similar aircraft, so this was his ‘best birthday present ever’. The accompanying image shows Michael in his ‘Biggles’ gear, ready for his flight.

The IWM Duxford is always worth a visit at any time. It is hoped that next year’s day out will be to the historic dockyard at Portsmouth
