On the evening of Thursday 3rd March, the Paviors Company gathered at the church of Saint Martin within Ludgate to install their new Master. Under the supervision of the Learned Clerk, John Freestone, the now Immediate Past Master, Hugh MacDougald transferred his robe and badge-of-office to the new Master, Neil Sandberg. John May took up the position of Upper Warden and Melanie Hampton that of Renter Warden. All of the new officials made their declarations and signed an entry in a new Company Record Book that had been kindly donated by Past Master Sue Illman.
Immediately afterwards, another ‘installation’ took place as John Freestone, the Company’s Clerk, who had decided to retire, stepped aside and Jennifer Athill was robed and badged to take up the Clerk’s position in his place.
These events were followed by a service of thanksgiving and dedication led by the Company Chaplain, Canon Hugh Williams. The Allegri Singers, conducted by Stephen Brown, provided choral support for the service.
At the end of the service, members of the Company, along with their partners, retired to Cutlers’ Hall to participate in the Installation Dinner.
