London Construction Academy February 2019 Course
The latest course of the London Construction Academy finished on Friday 15 February.
Students have been learning emergency first aid, site access traffic marshalling, customer service, fire marshalling, plus health and safety level 1. A significant number of course participants have recently left school or college and are looking for apprenticeships or trainee roles, but there are some experienced candidates seeking manual roles, who have been on the course to achieve their training certificates. The graduation event went very well with all 16 students completing the course and 13 passing their CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) tests.
The Academy is grateful to Tarmac, F M Conway, Keltbray and Sir Robert McAlpine whose representatives attended the graduation event. Keltbray was a new visitor to the Academy and BAM Nuttall have recently become involved, kindly releasing two apprenticeships to advertise. In all, 12 employment opportunities for over-18 year olds have been released to the class, with 10 places being offered by Tarmac in addition to the two apprenticeships with BAM Nuttall . The remaining companies asked for CV’s to be sent in and recommended that their job-websites are monitored as apprenticeships are released. The Academy recognizes that there are health and safety restrictions on those under 18 years old, but advises that there are also five successful students in this age group. Of all the successful students, 25 per cent have never before had interviews.
The Academy has an excellent track-record in helping students from varied NEETS backgrounds gain employment and transform their lives:
o In 2017, 54 candidates enrolled with 69 per cent passing the course and, of these, 62 per cent were offered employment opportunities
o 78 per cent of students from 2014 and 2015 are in employment two years later.
The London Construction Academy is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Paviors and Transport for London. For more information contact:

Any companies with relevant employment opportunities are urged to contact Joanna Rogers at the Academy (as above). The second course of the year will be starting in March with graduation on Friday 5 April.
