London Construction Academy February 2019 Course
The latest course of the London Construction Academy started on 4 February. The 16 students who have enrolled will graduate after two weeks, on Friday 15 February.
Students are learning emergency first aid, site access traffic marshalling, customer service, fire marshalling, health and safety level 1 and, at the end of the course, will complete a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) test. Travel and course costs are met by sponsorship from the Worshipful Company of Paviors and Transport for London.
The students have the following age-ranges:
Five in the age range 16-17
Three in the range 18-21
Four in the range 22-30
and four over 30 years of age
A significant number have recently left school or college and are looking for apprenticeships or trainee roles, but there are some experienced candidates seeking manual roles, who are on the course to achieve their training certificates.
The Academy has an excellent track-record in helping students from varied NEETS backgrounds gain employment and transform their lives:
o In 2017, 54 candidates enrolled with 69 per cent passing the course and, of these, 62 per cent were offered employment opportunities
o 78 per cent of students from 2014 and 2015 are in employment two years later.
Potential employers are invited to advertise their vacancies with the Academy. Such an approach has everything to gain and incurs no recruitment costs. Those who would like to meet members of the class are welcome to attend the graduation morning at 9.30 am Friday 15 February at the training centre based in Elephant and Castle, a five minute walk from the train/tube station.
