London Construction Academy’s June 2018 Course
The London Construction Academy has just completed its third course of the year. The result was a success, with 18 out of the 19 participating students making it to the graduation day on 6 July. Of these, 17 were proud to receive their London Bronze Pass, having successfully completed all their modules. Awards were presented by the Master of the Paviors, Dyfrig James.
Having had mixed results from trialling a three-week course for the first part of the year, this course reverted to the tried and tested two-week format used previously. Here is some feedback from course participants.
Joseph ... ‘Thanks to the brilliant and understanding staff at the LCA, I now feel that I have the skills to succeed in construction.’
Vernon ... ‘I have new skills and knowledge in traffic marshalling, fire marshalling, first aid and health and safety. It is always a good idea to be updated: it really helps. Thanks to the London Construction Academy.’
Matthew ... ‘I promote everyone to take part in this course if you’re interested in construction and other life skills.’
Asean ...‘I believe passionately in the construction company and want to contribute to the industry.’
Joanna Rogers of F M Conway Ltd, who is responsible for running the course, noted one candidate in particular, Joe, who was previously homeless, had no formal qualifications prior to the course, yet who passed effortlessly while helping others in the process.
With the course now finished, candidates are at the key phase of job-hunting. Two students have already found employment, two have confirmed interviews, and one has returned to full-time education. Progress is being monitored and support given. As always, help from Paviors is required to bring forward suitable employment opportunities.
The final course of 2018 starts on 8 October and will be preceded by a promotional event for Paviors at the Training Centre on Wednesday 17 October. Watch this space!
