London Construction Academy’s June 2018 Course
The latest course of the London Construction Academy started on 25 June and students will graduate on Friday 6 July. Course graduates will be seeking employment opportunities from employers in the London area. Most of the students have recently left school/college and are looking for apprenticeships or trainee roles, but there are also some more mature and experienced candidates who are on the course to achieve their training certificates, and who are seeking manual roles. All candidates rely on public transport and live within a London Borough.
On the course, students will are being instructed in manual handling, first aid awareness, traffic control, customer service, fire marshal, health and safety Level 1 and, at the end of the course, will complete a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) test. Students on this course are in the following age ranges:
16-17 yrs: 6
18-21 yrs: 5
22-30 yrs: 2
Over 30 yrs: 6
Travel and course costs are met by sponsorship from the Worshipful Company of Paviors and Transport for London.
Not only can potential employers help students from varied NEETS (not in employment, education or training) backgrounds gain employment and transform their lives, but here are some other reasons to consider the Academy:
o Only students who have attended and passed all modules of the course are recommended to potential employers
o All potential students are vetted before enrolment to ensure that charity money will be spent wisely in training them
o At induction, students must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in the UK and pass a drugs and alcohol test
o In 2017, 54 candidates enrolled with 69% passing the course; of these, 62% were offered employment opportunities
o 78% of students from the 2014 and 2015 courses are in employment two years later.
Employers are encouraged to advertise vacancies with the Academy. This incurs no recruitment costs, and so employers have everything to gain by this.
