Wine Tasting at The Charterhouse 20 June 2018
The Paviors’ Summer Wine Circle Event was held at their ‘home’ in The Charterhouse on Wednesday 20th June.
Over an aperitif enjoyed in the beautiful gardens, the group were given a brief history of Charterhouse by Brother Philip, before guest speaker, Demetri Walters MW, guided everyone through a fascinating selection of six wines from the Eastern Mediterranean. The wines were skilfully placed in their historical, geographical and cultural contexts, which was an eye-opener to the quality of these ancient vineyards and their (mostly) indigenous varieties.
Wines accompanied four excellent dinner courses, and united Greeks and Turks, Lebanese and Israelis, before a final trip was made to Cyprus for a quite delectable Commandaria from the world’s oldest classified vineyards. All in all, it was a most convivial occasion and succeeded admirably in creating an atmosphere of friendship and fellowship. Click here to see some images of the event in the Photographic Archive. Thank you to all those who gave their support and introduced their guests.
Looking forward, the Wine Circle aims to continue to offer a variety of themes for events to explore fully the world of wine. Feedback and suggestions from members of the Circle are always most welcome. The next scheduled event is on 18 October and will feature the wines of Château Brane-Cantenac, presented by proprietor, Henri Lurton. This will be held at the Army and Navy Club.
