2001: Millennium Promenade Waterfront, Gosport
The 2001 Paviors’ Award was made to Gosport Borough Council for their Millennium Promenade Waterfront, and was chosen from more than 80 entries. The Promenade is part of the ‘Renaissance of Portsmouth Harbour Landmark’ project. This overall project includes three kilometres of promenade, coastal protection works, open spaces and parking, and pedestrian links from the waterfront to Holy Trinity Church. However, the scheme was chosen as the winner of the Paviors’ Award because of the new promenade, with its attractive seating in the flood defence wall giving a good view of the harbour.
