The Paviors’ Golfing Society’s Captain’s Day this year was held at the picturesque Burnham Beeches Golf Club in Buckinghamshire. This is a parkland course with wonderful trees and great scenery. The event was held on 16 May, which proved to be a fine day, although a bit cold. This year’s Captain, Damian Tiernan, provided all 20 participants before they teed off with a goody-bag consisting of golf balls, tees and a pitch-mark repairer, and it was not long before some members found the additional balls beneficial having experienced the long grass and undergrowth to their detriment.

The Society members were playing for the Bridgewater Bowl, with the winner also receiving the Master’s Prize of a cut-glass set of wine goblets and decanter. Despite the best efforts of the gentlemen members, this year’s winner by a clear margin was the Immediate Past Captain Lynda Chase-Gardener, with an impressive score of 39 points: playing with the Master obviously had a beneficial effect. After a superb dinner, Lynda was presented with the Bridgewater Bowl by the Captain and the Master presented his prize.

Thanks to the Burnham Beeches Golf Club for a well presented course and great hospitality that contributed to a most enjoyable day. Hopefully, our gentlemen members can get in a bit more practice before the next society event at West Hill Golf Club on 18 September!
