From The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor, Alderman William Russell
As the newly elected Lord Mayor of the City of London, my aim is to build on the incredible successes achieved over the last two years of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal City-wide ambition and commitment to creating A Better City for All. Together with my colleagues, Alderman Peter Estlin and Alderman Sir Charles Bowman, we are extremely proud of the progress we have made in making sure the City is truly Inclusive, Healthy, Skilled and Fair and we look forward to continuing this work into 2020.
I am delighted to be hosting a number of exciting fundraising events over the coming winter months. We kick off with Voices of London, a night of inspirational poetry about our great City at Mansion House on Tuesday 26 November. Readers include Damian Lewis, Helen McCrory and Theresa Lola, Young People’s Laureate for London. Please do come and join us to mark the beginning of our exciting fundraising year for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
This is followed in the New Year with The Lord Mayor’s Highland Ball at Mansion House on Friday 24 January 2020. Don your dancing shoes and reel the night away to a live Scottish dance band and enjoy a Scottish themed dinner menu. Catch your early bird tickets before the deadline of 2 December.
Interested in wine? Then our Call My Wine Bluff Dinner is for you! Test your wine knowledge at a fun and informal evening at Mansion House on Thursday 27 February where you will enjoy a wine tasting game led by our expert bluffers alongside a three course dinner served in a hamper!
Our final event for the winter season is The Lord Mayor’s Race Night on Wednesday 25 March. Join trainers and jockeys to enjoy the thrill of the races on screen, choosing your horse, betting and cheering them through to the finish line whilst enjoying a three course dinner in the exquisite surroundings of the Egyptian Hall.
We also have a whole host of other exciting events planned for the year, from dinners to participation and challenge events. For more information of any events visit the Appeal website or contact us on events@thelordmayorsappeal.org or 020-7332-1582.
All net funds raised will support our three inspirational charity partners Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zones and Samaritans to deliver ground breaking programmes which will not only change people’s lives but save them. With the Appeal planning for its dynamic evolution of moving forward to a rolling programme, we will now also begin support for our new charity partner The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Finally, if any of you are thinking of kindly making a donation to the Appeal, can I ask you to do this as part of our Big Give Christmas Campaign between 3-10 December, as your donations will be matched.
I very much hope to see you at some of the Appeal events over the course of the year and wish you a very happy festive season.
