On Tuesday 19 January, 35 Pavior ladies enjoyed a guided tour of the Old Bailey in London.
The tour was led by Charles Henty, the Under-Sheriff and Secondary of London, whose job it is to run the London’s Central Criminal Court, the ‘Old Bailey’. The group was accompanied by one of the City of London’s two Sheriffs, Christine Rigden.
The tour was shown the building’s impressive entrance and hallway, and some of the 18 courts and 74 cells. Mr Henty described the interesting history and traditions of the building and activities of the Court. He related some amusing anecdotes about various events while the tour sat in No 1 Court, which is one of the ‘old’ courts in the building.
The tour provided a rare opportunity to see and hear about one of the City of London’s hidden gems. Those attending had a fascinating and most enjoyable evening, rounded off by dinner at a nearby restaurant, hosted by the Mistress Pavior, Caroline Last.
